Beatrix Potter is most famous for the creation
of the lovable and mischievous Peter Rabbit.
She was also a natural scientist and an avid conservationist,
who loved sharing the country life and landscapes of
rural England through her many stories and illustrations.
As a successful farmer Beatrix had an interest in land preservation
and is credited for the preservation of much of what is now
the Lake District National Park,
the largest national park in England .
How lucky are we!

I love Beatrix Potter--everything from her art to her life. Thanks for reminding me of her birthday.

Hello Bonnie:
ReplyDeleteYears ago, when in the Lake District, we visited Beatrix Potter's home, Hill Top, where, of course as you will know, she wrote many of her books. At the time of our being there we had the place, as we recall, to ourselves. But that must now be almost forty years ago. We are sure it would not be so now.
Oh! I didn't know it was her birthday. It's funny reading about her life in the biography, I thoght that her upbringing would be considered almost like child cruelty today. Yet it seems to have pushed her into becoming the person she became. I wonder if she reacted against it. Nice photo.
ReplyDeleteI loved the movie about her. This photo is beautiful. Thanks for bringing her to the forefront today.
ReplyDeleteBonnie, I have always been drawn to Potter's stories and illustrations as well.
ReplyDeleteJane and Lance, I can only imagine roaming the area with no one else around. What a wonderful experience.
Jenny, I find Beatrix's life fascinating as well. Thank you for visiting today!
Jill, Thank you. I never want to see these wonderful creators disappear into the sunset. True talent!
Her stories inspire such an imaginative journey in children--the idea that animals have lives, relationships, desires. The Tailor of Gloucester, Benjamin Bunny, Jemima Puddleduck...and of course, that rascal Peter...were an important part of Will's early childhood. I didn't know the books as a child, so I loved them as a mom.
ReplyDeleteinteresting....i did love peter rabbit, i had not thought about this in years!!!
ReplyDeleteI use to read Beatrix Potter to my children when they were young. Lovely post!
