A Favorite Thing

Last summer while browsing the magazine section, at the bookstore, in search of something fresh and exciting I happened upon Hoffman Media's "cottage" publication.  Always a handsome cover, quality papers and published seasonally, it has become a favorite.

Yesterday I came home with the Autumn issue, found a cool place to sit and escaped for a bit.

I never tire of the beautiful photographs.

There is something on every page to delight me.

I can imagine finding a cozy spot to spend a cool autumn afternoon
with a good book and a cup of tea.  Would you like to join me?

I'm already dreaming of transitioning the containers.
It will soon be time to change out the impatiens
for mums and pansies.

The peaches and summer squash will disappear from the bins at the Farmer's Market,
to be replaced with crisp apples and butternut squash.
Oh I can smell the apple pie baking (it is my one weakness).

Cooler days and approaching holidays mean it's time to head back into the studio.
Are your creative juices beginning to flow?

Are you dreaming of Autumn?

    1. Helen, I, too, have been watching the olympics, although much of it is time delayed. I do hope you will share your latest work. Enjoy!

  3. A cool wind arrived in Michigan today. As I sat on the screened porch visions of wheat, gourds, pumpkins, orange, yellow and browns entered my thoughts. I am so ready for the season changes!

    1. Oh Lynne, your description is lovely. I have friends who spend the summer in Michigan. They say it is absolutely wonderful. Your vision sounds like a page out of the Autumn Cottage. Have a wonderful week. Bonnie

  4. Hello Bonnie:
We have, alas, never seen a copy of 'Autumn Cottage' which is certainly not available in Hungary and we doubt Britain too. It looks to be a most alluring magazine.

Like you, we never mind the passing of summer, much as we love it, for autumn is yet another glorious season.

    1. Jane and Lance, Autumn is my favorite and unfortunately it is the shortest season in the southern part of the United States. I am afraid we have at least three more months of summer even though the calendar will say otherwise. Have a wonderful week.

  5. Summer hasn't really even begun here - and already the first trees are beginning to turn orange and brown around the edges. Am I sad? No! I love autumn/fall, especially those clear, cold, frosty mornings which burn away to brilliant blue skies and sunshine with clean, fresh air. I love the colours, the idea of warming foods and drinks, and snuggling up under a warm throw on a cool evening. I find that summer drains me, whereas autumn energises me.

Sorry abut all that. I didn't realise that I felt so strongly about it!

    1. Elaine, I love the description of your autumn. It sounds wonderful. Our trees have turn as well, but not from cool temperatures. We are in one of the worst droughts recorded. The trees have gone into survival mode by going dormant early.... or so we are being told. Have a wonderful day!

  6. As much as I dislike this heat and humidity, I do love summer. It's ending always makes me sad. I love the long days and sitting outside in the evening. As I grow older! these seasons seem to be getting shorter.

  7. Julie, I have adjusted quite well. Of course it was just Willie and I over the weekend. I have spent days without electricity...it is much more difficult than living without running water. As long as I can take a shower, even a quick one, I am good. Keeping my fingers crossed things will begin to happen today. Thanks, Bonnie

  8. Arleen, Summer is by far our longest season. It seems this past year it has been going on since March 2011. I do agree the years have sped up the last few years. I have actually been on a mission to slow my life down. Probably not going to happen though! Have a wonderful day.

  9. Autumn is my favorite time of year, and I wish it lasted longer than it does. With this heavy heat we have been having, I am looking forward to it more than ever. I love cottage magazines, and you make me want to have a slice of apple pie right now!

  12. I am waiting for fall too. Hopefully it will get a little cooler down here in Beaufort. I am originally from Penna. and always enjoyed the falls back there but not the long dark winters. Today I saw this edition in the grocery store and should have picked it up. Thanks for visiting my blog.
