Cold and Rainy Changing to Sunshine

It has been the autumn weekend I've longed for,
giving me a taste of everything she has to offer.

She showed up cold and rainy Saturday morning
making it perfect for finding a quiet spot
to settle in with a cup of tea and an old
friend who has been patiently waiting to be revisited.

There were new arrivals eager for perusal,
promising dreams for perfect holidays.

She waved away the rain with Sunday
dawning crisp and sunny,
giving me reason to putter around outside
planting  pansies and violas in a border garden.

I finally gave in and cut the last of the hydrangea.
It was time.

Preparing the gardens for their winter rest,  (oh, I
am hoping for a winter this year),
Roger helped me rearrange a shade garden

moving and adding perennials from
the last of the summer pots.

There was plenty of clean up after this perfect weekend.

Yes, Autumn introduced herself this weekend.  I hope
she returns soon with plans for a longer stay.

  1. Oh, what a lovely idea to re-read Rebecca! I often wish I read my favorite books more often; it just seems there are always so many new ones that I want to read.

We've had autumn visit us too, and I'm really enjoying the cooler nights. Your pictures are beautiful, as always. Hope you had a great weekend.

  2. I loved this Bonnie . . . and enjoy seeing the change of season in your corner. Christmas Cottage magazine publisher? I haven't seen this one and it looks like I need to purchase. Your photos are so crisp and beautifully presented. I hope your Autumn is a frequent visitor . . .

    1. Lynne, Christmas Cottage is published by Hoffman Publishers. They only publish four of the Cottage publications a year. They are always beautiful. Thank you, Bonnie

  3. I love this time of year when its cool and mother nature brings out all the reds and golds. Apple cider has been simmering for a week now and books are laying around ready. I'm not going to rake the leaves yet though. I'm going to enjoy this as long as possible!

    Have a beautiful fall week!

  4. I do love a fall garden with the pansies, mums, ornamental cabbages and heirloom pumpkins sprinkled about. I still have so much to do out in the gardens and the cool fall air has arrived. I am jealous that you have gotten it all done. That rain we had this weekend gave me an excuse to sit around inside, drink tea, read a book and veg out on Lifetime TV.

Your photography is lovely. You are a very talented lady.

    1. Arleen, I am afraid I still have a few things left to do. I would love to get some bulbs planted I think it is still too warm. Don't you just love days meant to cocoon inside? Thank you so much, Bonnie

But I do want the pansy planting day too.....

  11. Your weekend sounds perfect, Bonnie. I love both those kinds of days, the cozy one inside and the active one outside. Fall is here in Los Angeles also, thank goodness. I would love to reread Rebecca. What a good idea. Enjoy the great weather!

  12. What a lovely way to spend the first "really" fall weekend. Our weekend days were filled with those longer shadows and a nip of chill in the air. I went on a "rescue" mission to save a few herbs by either bringing them inside or turning them into herbal butters. I also curled up with Cottage Christmas!!

    Best,
    Bonnie
